Clinical Trials & Research New & Exciting Studies for Treatment of Thalassemia Over the next 6-12 months several new treatment opportunities
will open up for thalassemia patients who are followed at Children’s
Hospital and Research Center at Oakland Thalassemia Center (CHRCO).

noted that two years ago the National Institute of Health (NIH) initiated
a “Thalassemia Network” which is comprised of five
thalassemia clinical centers in the US, among them CHRCO. This network
was organized in order to improve clinical research in thalassemia by
starting new projects that address significant problems in this community.
Most, but not all of the current clinical studies will enroll patients
