New & Exciting Studies for Treatment of Thalassemia

Over the next 6-12 months several new treatment opportunities will open up for thalassemia patients who are followed at Children’s Hospital and Research Center at Oakland Thalassemia Center (CHRCO). Click on the left <currant clinical trails> to download a PDF of summaries of each of the studies. It should be first noted that two years ago the National Institute of Health (NIH) initiated a “Thalassemia Network” which is comprised of five thalassemia clinical centers in the US, among them CHRCO. This network was organized in order to improve clinical research in thalassemia by starting new projects that address significant problems in this community. Most, but not all of the current clinical studies will enroll patients not just from CHRCO but also from all these 5 thalassemia centers.  If you are interested in a study but live more than 50 miles away, please review our guidelines for sponsorhip.

If you are a thalassemia patient or a parent of a child with thalassemia and would like more information on these studies, please contact the Cooley’s Anemia Foundation at (800) 522-7222 or info@cooleysanemia.org
